Acer Chromebook Tab 10 case angled

Acer Chromebook Tab 10 gets a native case and stand option for $39.99

Earlier this week we saw Belkin announce a USB-C keyboard with stand for the Acer Chromebook Tab and now Acer itself has a stand option. You won’t get a keyboard for the $39.99 price tag, but this stand doubles as a case and has a few viewing angles. Acer tells me the case should be on sale soon, along with a protective film for the Chrome OS tablet that will cost $9.99. The company is working on additional accessories and I’ll share that information when I have it.

The Acer Chromebook Tab 10 case is similar to other products I’ve used on similar small tablets. You place the tablet in the rubber holder, which is attached to the case and a cover protects your screen while making easier to tote the tablet. There aren’t any magnets inside the cover that will turn the screen of your tablet off, however.

Since Acer makes the case, all of the cutouts are in the exact right spots. There some for the speakers, the rear camera, charging port, headphone jack, power and volume buttons, and even for the removable stylus pen; there’s a notch in the front cover for easy stylus removal. The case is made from a leather-looking material on the outside and softer microfiber inside.

You can see the two main viewing angles in the gallery: One is quite upright while the second reduces the angle a bit and is decent for typing on the virtual keyboard. I’ve even folded the cover behind the tablet for better lap typing as you can see. Having three choices is nice for content consumption as well.

Unless you plan to use the Acer Chromebook Tab 10 in your hands like a big phone, or flat on your lap, this looks to be a smart purchase. Add a USB or Bluetooth keyboard to the mix and you’ve got nice little setup for a desk or table.

  1. What does the case weigh? I’m guessing around a half pound (or a couple hundred grams).

Too bad it doesn’t have an option to stand in portrait/vertical orientation.

    1. I wasn’t provided the specs but on a food scale it looks to be around 270g. Not noticeably heavier or lighter than any of my other tablet cases that have a similar form factor.

      1. Thanks, that sounds about right. I suppose it highlights the tablet weight conundrum:

Tablets themselves are smaller and lighter than laptops. But by the time you accessorize them, they lose the weight advantage:

        Tab 10 with case = 550g + 270g = 820g
        vs. Asus C101 = 862g

        Tab 10 with case + Logitech Keys to Go keyboard = 550g + 270g + 176g = 996g
vs. Samsung CB Plus = 1062g

I suppose the trick is some *really light* accessories. 😉

        1. (And none of this is a criticism of the tablet or the case, just my personal lament.)

As I recall, is an upcoming Chrome OS version supposed to get a new on-screen keyboard? Something more like Gboard on Android? In theory, that might be sufficient for on-the-go use, to keep the travel weight down.

  2. Hi Kevin,

I just bought a Tab 10 from the Acer online store here in Australia. Unfortunately they dont have the cases on the Australian store. Do you know where they are available?

    Thanks!

    1. Congrats on your purchase, Geoff! Acer provided me the case for review and told me that it would be available in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, I don’t think it is yet, and not just in Australia, but anywhere. I have seen some third party cases (that are cheaper) on Amazon’s US site; there’s even one for $30 that has a keyboard. I can’t speak to the quality of them, of course, but that might be an option if they’re available in AUS and you don’t want to wait for the official Acer case. Cheers!

      1. Thanks Kevin, I’ll check out your suggestions but likely wait for the official case. And be careful not to break it in the interim 🙂
