Brydge C-Type USB-C / Bluetooth keyboard for Chrome OS debuts at $99 to order

In January at the Consumer Electronics Show, I got an early look at the Brydge C-Type keyboard for Chrome OS and it’s now available. You can order the Brydge Type-C dual-connectivity keyboard now for $99, with shipments starting on May 17.

If the Type-C looks like Brydge’s own Type-G, that’s because it’s essentially the same design and the company worked directly with Google to make both keyboards. The Type-G appeared at the same time as the Google Pixel slate and Google’s own keyboard for that tablet.

While I opted for the Google Pixel Slate Keyboard for my tablet – even though its design does make for some lapability challenges – many Brydge Type-G owners are happy with their choice.

The previously announced Brydge Type-C dual-connectivity keyboard for Chrome OS can now be ordered for . You get the option of either USB-C or Bluetooth to type on your Chromebox, Chrome OS tablet, or even a Chromebook.

And in my short type with the Type-C at CES, I was impressed. I’ll have to get a review unit for a fuller opinion but the Type-C provided a solid typing experience, has a backlit keyboard and works either over USB-C or Bluetooth. Note that you also get a dedicated Google Assistant key. Brydge says to expect up to six months of typing on a single charge.

Assuming my first impressions hold true with the shipping units, the Brydge Type-C wireless keyboard could be ideal for Chromeboxes or Chrome OS tablets.

By the way, there’s a matching Brydge Type-C wireless trackpad as well; that’s listed as “coming soon”.

Thanks to George for the tip!

    1. Except at least for the trackpad, it looks waaayy thicker than the magic trackpad I have.

    2. Well, Brydge has been making keyboards for iPads for several years now, so it would make sense for it to look Mac-like. That said, it’s a wireless keyboard so it’s not like there’s all that much room to really differentiate one’s self design-wise. And hey, at least it matches the blue from the Pixel Slate.

  1. odd. They don’t say whether it’s backlit. That’s a really key feature, especially at the $100 price point.

    1. It does have a backlit keyboard: “And in my short type with the Type-C at CES, I was impressed. I’ll have to get a review unit for a fuller opinion but the Type-C provided a solid typing experience, has a backlit keyboard and works either over USB-C or Bluetooth.”.

      1. No, it does not have backlit keys. go to the brydge website and go to their Q&A. they state several times that it is not backlit. $100 for a nonbacklit keyboard is ridiculous.

  2. Without a built in trackpad, it isn’t worth $US99 even though it has a long battery life (which will degrade), is either BT or Type C, is backlit, & has a gAssistant key built-in.

    1. Just curious, why does the trackpad need to be built in? Some people prefer to use a mouse, so having a trackpad they don’t want isn’t ideal. Also, Brydge will have a trackpad companion product as noted.
