Acer Chromebook Spin 15

Acer introduces Chromebook Spin 15 convertible and Chromebook 15

Along with the new Chromebook Spin 13 and Chromebook 13 debuting today, Acer also announced larger versions at its Acer Next event: The Chromebook Spin 15 and Chromebook 15.

These devices are similar but obviously bigger than the 13-inch models. Acer is using a 15.6-inch IPS display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The same Gorilla Glass trackpad from the smaller models is there, along with choice of processor. These can be powered by an Intel Pentium N4200 , Celeron N3450, or dual-core Intel Celeron N3350 processor. Memory options are 4 or 8 GB of RAM and either 16 or 32 GB of local storage.

Both have native Google Play Store support although the one thing that appears to be missing from the Spin 15 is a stylus; the 13-inch model includes one. USB-C ports, a microSD slot, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth round out the specs.

Pricing for the clamshell starts at $349 and the Spin model will start at $449 in the US when the device become available in July. Acer says these devices can run for more than 13 hours on a charge.

  1. Are those processors correct? That seems extremely under-powered and old for a Chromebook being released in 2018. Especially with Linux support being announced. I wonder if the new 13 spin will be sold to consumers?

    1. Acer’s press release says these are in their “value” segment, so the processor choice isn’t surprising from that perspective. I assume the Chromebook Spin 13 will be sold directly from Acer to anyone even though it’s targeted towards business users.

      1. Thanks for the reply! Will the spin 15 have a stylus included? It sounds great, but that processor is really holding me back. Ultimately, it’ll be something from BB, gotta use that gift card. Hp X2 looks good, a bit more powerful.

        1. No stylus or digitizer on the Spin 15 – that would have boosted the price. 🙁

  2. they really missed an opportunity to put a better CPU in this 15 inch. or 8gb/64gb mem/storage. i have the current 15 inch and love it but i really wanted a better CPU…

    1. Yup, it seems like the same general configuration in the new one that you have, no?
