Lenovo Yoga Chromebook C630 with 4K screen debuts at $899.99

Back in August, the Lenovo Yoga Chromebook 630 debuted with a 15.6-inch FullHD display and the promise of a 4K option. The base model went on sale in October but since then… there was no mention or availability of the 4K version from Lenovo. That just changed as you can now directly order this 2-in-1 Chromebook with a 3840 x 2160 touchscreen for $899.99.

Lenovo itself didn’t make an announcement about the new option. Instead, a commenter at Chrome Unboxed caught sight of it earlier today. Lenovo’s website says that any orders placed today ship out “in more than 5 weeks”, so it’s possible that it only just ramped up the production run.

Regardless, if you’re willing to part with $900, you can get one of the most powerful Chromebooks along with an ultra-high resolution screen: The first 4K display on a Chromebook.

Inside are the same bits of hardware in the 1080p model currently selling for, but out of stock, $719.99. That means you get this configuration:

  • 8th-Generation Intel Core i5-8250U processor (which uses a fan for cooling)
  • Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 920
  • 8 GB of memory
  • 128 GB of eMMC storage
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • 802.11ac Wi-Fi (2 x 2 MIMO)
  • 720p HD camera
  • 2 USB Type-C ports, 1 USB Type-A port
  • MicroSD card slot
  • Backlit keyboard (an upgrade from the 1080p model sold at Best Buy)

Essentially, you’re paying $180 for the higher resolution display, which isn’t bad but it’s not something most users probably need either. If you have access to 4K video content, it might be worth the upgrade.

Overall, the 1080p model with the same configuration has received mainly positive reviews with the exception of some Best Buy models exhibiting some backlight screen bleed, so if you do nab one of these from Lenovo, that would be the first thing I’d check for on that 4K display.

  1. For someone looking for something comparable to the Acer Chromebook Spin 13, but willing to trade off the Wacom stylus support for a larger screen diagonal than 13.5 inches, this is the right/only device. For Web apps and pages though, the Spin’s 3:2 aspect ratio (in contrast to the C630’s 16:9) likely makes the C630’s display size less of an advantage.

  2. 4K at 15.6 inches is 282 pixels per inch. That’s somewhat sharper than the Pixelbook (234 ppi) and almost as sharp as the Pixel Slate (293 ppi).

  3. I have the Lenovo Yoga Chromebook c630 and I purchased mine thru the Lenovo site directly. The Model I got was the i5 128 gb edition that did come with a Backlit keyboard. I think the 1080p screen display is enough real estate for this device. Although, I’m interested to see what the 4k version looks like I don’t think its needed for my daily use. Most windows pcs come with 1080p anyway. I do want to say this is a fantastic machine and I love Chrome OS. I will never go near another windows PC again. Please consider purchasing this unit if you are in of a new laptop you can’t go wrong with it, the build quality is amazing and the computer with the CORE i5 is lightning fast. Lenovo made a great product but be sure to buy it from them and not Best Buy to get the bells and whistles you want in it including backlit keys. The Best Buy does not have the backlit keyboard and this was a big gripe of mine to Lenovo before making my decision to purchase it thru them once they assured me the backlit keys were on the unit I wanted.

  4. I ordered the 4K in January; it said 3-4 weeks to ship. They keep pushing out the ship date month by month. In March they gave me an April 6 ship date. Now that it’s April, I have a May 6 ship date. Is there a production problem w/ this new model?

  5. The 4k model is finally listed again at Lenovo. Although it says shipping in 3-4 weeks. It wasn’t listed at all recently. 9:20 pm 4/6

    1. A few readers ordered it weeks ago when it was available again. Still haven’t received it and the delivery date has been pushed back at least once for them. I don’t get it. ??‍♂️

  6. It’s like when they clear up a little of their backorders and feel justified to relist it. Ignoring that many people are still waiting.

  7. Well for once they moved my ship date a bit closer, but their estimated dates are fluid to say the least. I am now due to ship 30 April w/ a 6 May delivery. However, I received this email today, requiring action from me to keep the order going. I got the 4K at their cheapest so far ($629.99), so I’m hanging in there!

…”if we don’t hear from you within the next five days, Federal regulations require us to automatically cancel the remainder of your order.

    1. PS: A little over a week ago, Lenovo did attempt to bill my CC for the full amount, so I thought it was going to ship. However, it was just a “pending transaction” under my ledger and went away in a few days (no charge yet).

  8. Lenovo finally shipped my 4K from China yesterday. Their estimated ship date (& pricing) was all over the place ’til the very end. I got it for $648.26 out-the-door, ordered late January.
