Just in time for the holiday weekend, “Santa” dropped the $979 Asus Chromebook Flip CX3 on my doorstep and I have some first impressions. The price is steep but the internals may be worth it, particularly that fanless, power-sipping Intel Core i7.

I have the 2021 HP Chromebook x360 14c on loan to change and my first impressions are very favorable. This has an 11th-gen Intel Core i3, 8 GB of memory, 128 GB of SSD storage and 14-inch screen in a 13.3-inch chassis.
Currently discounted to $449.99, Lenovo’s Core i3 Chromebook Flex 5i is only $10 more than the Pentium powered clamshell. You can’t go wrong either way but there are some compromises in the Flex model.
The Asus Chromebook Flip CX3400 is a new convertible laptop with fanless processors up to an Intel Core i7. It shares many attributes from the CX5400 but should cost less.
