Odd: Lenovo Yoga Chromebook C630 “temporarily unavailable” at the moment

Right before the Consumer Electronics Show kicks off, there’s a mystery to be solved. Namely: Why is the Lenovo Yoga Chromebook C630 showing as “temporarily unavailable” on Lenovo’s website? Typically, you see an “out of stock” or a back ordered” status, so this seems strange to me.

I only found out about this today from George, one of the site’s readers, who recently bought this very device not long ago. Indeed, you can still get the Yoga Chromebook C630 from Best Buy as of today, although that model is a Best Buy exclusive, currently priced at $699 with a Core i5 processor, 8 GB of memory and 128 GB of storage to go with the 15.6-inch FullHD display.

Specs on the Lenovo site show a lesser model with the same display but a Core i3 chip, 8 GB of memory and 64 GB of storage. Then again, it doesn’t model because you can’t currently get that model for some strange reason.

It’s possible this is very temporary and unless direct inventory becomes available soon, I’ll be sure to ask Lenovo at their CES booth in the next few days. I’ll likely be stopping by there anyway because there’s still another minor mystery to be solved: Where the heck is the C630 with the 4K display that was announced back in August?

For those interested, George is likely taking back the Yoga Chromebook he bought due to “severe backlight screen bleed” and a few other minor issues that you can read about here.

  1. All of my local best buys have actually recalled the C630 laptop, but no reason given. Don’t know if it’s a nation wide recall or not, but something is going on.

      1. I work at a best buy. The display model for the C630 was taken down recently. A search on best buy’s computer system showed the C630 as being recalled, and it being completely out of stock at all local stores. I am curious to find out why.

        1. Thanks for the informative reply. I purchased a Lenovo Yoga Chromebook C630 from Best Buy over the holidays and soon discovered the display was defective. The display on the unit I purchased suffers from severe backlight ‘screen bleeding’ (bright areas on a black background when viewed at night in a dark room). I first observed the issue during night-time movie viewing (bright areas within the upper and lower horizontal black bars), and then discovered it was more extensive when I switched to a solid black wallpaper viewed in a dark room at night. I plan to return the unit by the holiday return deadline of Jan. 12. The product’s apparent recall is certainly a fascinating development.

  2. I have been having odd screen or power blackouts on my c630 lately and have been considering returning it. This is something I”m going to look into. I think there may be a loose wire or software issue. The right arrow also is a little funky. It seems to stick causing a continuous high-speed item select.

  3. For me it wasn’t the chrome book that was available at BestBuy and was then recalled. It is Lenovo’s Yoga C630 WOS (always connected) 2-in-1 device.

My friend bought it from BBY in December and he loves it. When I went to the local BBY store, they told me that there was a recall on the device because of cellular connectivity issues (even though my friend swears by it). Lenovo’s website is showing “Temporarily unavailable”.
