How Long Does a Chromebook Enterprise Deployment Take?
Minutes per device, based on interviews in Forrester’s September 2025 study commissioned by Google. Forrester spoke with six IT decision-makers at telecoms, manufacturing, financial services and healthcare organisations with 22,000 to 60,000 employees.
A healthcare CTO said a new ChromeOS user is working in under 10 minutes. A financial services head of IT security put non-Chrome devices at several hours before the user is productive.

What does a ChromeOS rollout involve before launch?
Forrester’s composite organisation has 40,000 employees and moves 10,000 frontline staff onto 3,000 shared Chrome devices. Five IT staff spend about 35% of their time over four months on planning and app testing.
One telecoms firm began with a pilot of about 100 team members. A financial services firm used zero-touch enrollment, so devices shipped straight to users and enrolled once they went online.
Each user gets 1 hour of training. After launch, one full-time employee manages the 3,000 endpoints, while a financial services interviewee reported one FTE for 11,000 devices.
Uptake by company size appears in these enterprise Chromebook adoption figures.
IT teams also save 1 hour on each new account. The composite sets up 1,500 accounts a year through staff turnover.

Turner Industries: 1,200 Chromebooks
Turner Industries, an industrial contractor, says deployment now takes minutes instead of the hours once spent imaging and configuring machines. It estimates 1,750 hours saved each year.
Across 1,200 Chromebooks, Turner reports $700,000 in savings, with cost per device 40% to 50% below its previous hardware. It expects eight to ten years of use from each device.
Turner also runs Google Workspace for 21,000 employees. Distributed-workforce figures sit in these remote and hybrid Chromebook statistics.

Help Desk Tickets Fall From 8% to 2% of Devices a Month
Forrester’s composite assumes the replaced devices raised tickets at 8% a month, or 2,880 a year. Chrome devices raise 2% a month, or 1,080 a year, and each closes in 15 minutes instead of 2 hours.
A healthcare president of infrastructure reported tickets on 2.8% of Chrome devices against 8.1% on other systems each month. Forrester headlines a 63% reduction in tickets.
A manufacturing IT director told Forrester that upgrades and patching run in the background, which cuts support time. The same automatic cycle shows up in ChromeOS update installation data.
The model values reduced IT support at $1.1 million over three years, including two fewer endpoint manager roles.

Forrester’s model uses a Chrome Enterprise Upgrade list price of $50 per device per year and a $500 average device cost. Interviewees estimated $300 saved per device on hardware and $200 a year per device in retired security and endpoint licences.
The composite records $10.1 million in benefits against $3.3 million in costs over three years. That gives a 208% ROI, a $6.8 million NPV and payback in under six months.

Windows 10 End of Support and ChromeOS Flex Deployment Data
Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on 14 October 2025. Ten months later, Win10 still accounted for 30.14% of Windows desktop pageviews tracked by Statcounter, against 68.6% for Win11.
Statcounter measures sampled web pageviews, not installed devices. Chrome OS held 1.53% of worldwide desktop pageviews in August 2026, while Windows held 62.67%.

Windows 10 ESU pricing for businesses
Microsoft sells commercial Extended Security Updates through Volume Licensing at $61 per device for Year One. The price doubles each consecutive year for up to three years, to $122 and then $244, and licences are cumulative.
Microsoft states that ESUs do not include new features or non-security fixes.

ChromeOS Flex conversions
Google says ChromeOS Flex can convert an existing PC in as little as 5 minutes, after which the device is managed from the Google Admin console. In April 2026, Google and Back Market launched a USB install kit priced at around $3 as a pilot.
No published dataset counts enterprise Windows 10 PCs converted to ChromeOS Flex. Turner Industries estimates that converting its existing devices with Flex offers an additional $600,000 in savings.

Chromebook Shipments Fell 8.6% in Q2 2026
Omdia counted 5.415 million Chromebooks shipped worldwide in Q2 2026, down 8.6% from 5.926 million a year earlier. Q1 2026 had already fallen 11.5% to 4.503 million.
These are sell-in shipments to the channel, and Omdia’s releases do not split business buyers from schools. Omdia links the Q2 fall to vendors deprioritising Chromebooks for their relatively low profitability, a high Q2 2025 base when education deployments peaked, and delays to pre-agreed deployments.
Omdia principal analyst Kieren Jessop said in May 2026 that education-related deployments were being deferred until market conditions stabilise. Earlier quarters appear in this quarterly Chromebook shipment history.

What Share of Enterprise Apps Are Still Client-Based?
Half, according to Deliver a Next-Generation Endpoint, a 2024 Forrester Consulting study commissioned by Google. In the same study, 90% of IT leaders said their end-user computing future is web-based.
Legacy software also came up in Forrester’s 2025 interviews. A telecoms IT director said some day-to-day applications were blocking the company from opening Chromebooks to more staff.
Turner Industries says Cameyo by Google solved its access to legacy Windows applications and replaced its earlier VDI setup for field workers.

Googlebook Timeline and Existing Chromebook Enterprise Deployments
Google introduced Googlebooks at The Android Show on 12 May 2026. A day later, it told business and school customers it would take a phased approach over the next couple of years.
For current fleets, Google says ChromeOS keeps 10 years of automatic updates and devices stay manageable in the Google Admin console without new licences. It promises multiple pathways to the new experience and says no immediate action is required.
