2023 Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is Chromebook Plus eligble

You can now buy the 2023 Acer Chromebook Spin 714

The 2023 Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is now available for purchase direct or at your local Best Buy.As Acer noted when introducing this updated Spin 714, the pricing starts at $699. That gets you an updated 13th gen Intel processor with mostly the same other internals as the 2022 model. However, this year, the laptop loses the included, garaged stylus.

Ironically, I’m writing this post on last year’s model, having snagged one during a $100 sale price of $629. It’s nice to see Acer introduce the newer model at $30 less than the MSRP of the 2022 edition. It might disappoint some that the stylus is gone this time around. However, the 2023 Acer Chromebook Spin 714 does work with any USI stylus. If you would rather have the 2022 model with the stylus and 12th gen Intel Core i5, it’s currently on clearance for $529.99.

Aside from the updated CPU, the 2023 Acer Chromebook Spin 714 gets an additional year of ChromeOS updates, and a webcam sensor bump, while also shedding a smidge of weight. Overall, it meets the expected minimal update criteria.

I don’t think that’s a bad thing by any means. Having used my Spin 714 since August, I’m thrilled with the laptop. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!

  1. First, on the 2023 model you have the battery life “56 WHr battery, expected run time of up to 10 hours” double pasted into the input column.

Second Geekbench 5: 2188/7425 for 12th gen versus 2261/7755 for 13th gen when on the same Dell Latitude. As the same 5% performance bump is likely here, you really would be better off getting the 2022 model on sale (if you can find it). It looks like the big gains from Alder Lake to Raptor Lake were on the low end – ditching Celeron, Pentium and Core i3 laptops for N100/N200/N300 – and for desktops while midrange laptops basically stayed the same. 2024 – when Intel releases their 2nd gen Iris Xe iGPUs, goes from 10nm to 7nm and will emulate Apple (TBH ARM generally) in having an integrated NPU – will be the time to upgrade a Chromebook. The only exception will be if someone FINALLY releases a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 3 ARM Chromebook. I got tired of waiting and bought a Lenovo Duet with the Gen 2 (it being on sale helped).

Still, I say even iterative updates are good news. After Chromebook sales took a massive dive last year various naysayers – and by this I mean paid analysts – claimed that everything but entry level and education Chromebooks were going away. Instead in addition to this we are actually getting 12th and 13th gen Chromeboxes this year after seeing no new Chromeboxes for 2 years. So whether or not this is good for consumers, it is definitely good for the platform.

  2. Nice article, where can you buy though because on their website you don’t get the option
