Global venture funding reached $510 billion in the first half of 2026, past the $440 billion invested across all of 2025, Crunchbase reported on July 2. More than 70% of second-quarter capital went to AI-focused companies, up from just under 50% a year earlier. This post covers AI startup funding by region, by country and by deal size, with the period and source attached to every figure.
AI Startup Funding by Region
How Big Is AI Startup Funding in 2026?
The half split unevenly. Crunchbase counted $305 billion in Q1 2026 and $205 billion in Q2 across more than 5,000 startups, making Q2 the second-largest quarter on record after Q1.
Concentration explains most of it. Sixteen companies raised billion-dollar rounds in Q2, totalling $108.6 billion, or 53% of quarterly funding; eight were U.S.-based, four in Asia and four in Europe.
July did not slow down. Global venture funding hit $65 billion, up 100% year over year, with $35 billion, around 53% of the total, going to AI-focused companies.
Fourteen startups closed billion-dollar rounds that month, the highest count Crunchbase has recorded in a single month.

AI’s share of each regional pot is reported differently by Crunchbase, so the wording below is the source’s own.
| Region | AI share of Q2 2026 venture funding, as published |
|---|---|
| Global | More than 70% |
| North America | About 80% across stages |
| Asia | More than 60%, just over $26 billion |
| Europe | More than $10 billion; no Q2 percentage published |

North America
Investment in U.S. and Canadian startups totalled $392 billion in H1 2026, up 158% year over year. Late-stage and technology growth rounds took around $101 billion of the $137.2 billion Q2 figure.
Anthropic alone raised $65 billion at a $965 billion post-money valuation, roughly half the quarterly tally. Physical-AI startup Prometheus contributed more than 40% of the region’s early-stage total with a $12 billion round.
Seed moved the other way, falling to about $4.9 billion in Q2, down 15% from Q1 and 27% from a year earlier.

Europe
Europe-based startups raised $24 billion in Q2, its strongest quarter in four years and up from $14.4 billion in Q2 2025. H1 came to $42 billion, up 50%, still below the $60 billion H1 peak of 2021.
AI-focused European companies took more than $10 billion, the largest quarterly amount so far. Four billion-dollar rounds accounted for 25% of all regional investment.

The United Kingdom raised $10.4 billion, its third-largest quarter on record and short of the 2021 peak of $10.8 billion.
Asia
Asia recorded $42.8 billion in Q2, its highest quarterly total in more than three years. AI companies took just over $26 billion of that, which Crunchbase describes as by far the highest sum on record for the region.
China accounted for just over $30 billion, up 424% year over year and 76% from Q1. Singapore followed at about $3.6 billion and India at $3.3 billion.
DeepSeek led with $7.4 billion at a reported $50 billion valuation in June. Deal counts hit a multiyear low in the same quarter.

Latin America
Latin American startups raised $1.36 billion across seed- and growth-stage deals in Q2, up 47% year over year. Late-stage and growth rounds supplied $991 million of that.
Mexico outraised Brazil for the third time in a year, and by a wide margin.

AI Startup Funding by Country: Private Investment in 2025
Stanford HAI’s 2026 AI Index measures something narrower: private financing events for AI and machine learning companies that have raised over $1.5 million since 2013, drawn from Quid. On that basis, global private AI investment reached $344.66 billion in 2025, up 127.5%.
Generative AI companies took $170.87 billion of the total, nearly half, after growth of more than 200%.
| Country | Private AI investment, 2025 | Newly funded AI companies, 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| United States | $285.88B | 1,953 |
| China | $12.41B | 161 |
| United Kingdom | $5.90B | 172 |
| France | $4.36B | 84 |
| Canada | $4.28B | 79 |
| India | $4.09B | 108 |
| Germany | $3.89B | 92 |
| Israel | $3.58B | 64 |
| Australia | $2.52B | 38 |

The United States invested 23.1 times China’s total and 48.5 times the United Kingdom’s. Within the United States, California accounted for $218 billion, over 75% of the national figure, ahead of Colorado at $19 billion and New York at $13 billion.
Generative AI is where the gap widens. U.S. investment in that category reached $163.64 billion in 2025 against $3.21 billion across Europe and $1.48 billion in China.
Stanford adds a caveat: private figures leave out China’s government guidance funds, estimated to have deployed $184 billion into AI companies between 2000 and 2023.
Deal Sizes Behind the AI Funding Totals
Quid logged 5,505 private AI investment events in 2025, up from 3,538 in 2024. Events above $1 billion rose from 15 to 28, and the average event size grew 46% to $66.5 million.

Why AI Startup Funding Numbers Disagree
Crunchbase and Stanford count different things. Crunchbase tracks venture rounds by headquarters region and revises as late filings arrive; its H1 2026 total read $510 billion at the July 1 data cut and $515 billion by August 3.
Stanford’s series is annual, ends in December 2025, and includes private equity alongside venture, which is why $285.9 billion for the United States sits above any Crunchbase quarterly figure.
Spending rank and usage rank also come apart. Stanford put U.S. population-level AI diffusion at 28.3% in the second half of 2025, ranking 24th, behind the United Arab Emirates at 64% and Singapore at 60.9%, a gap visible in assistant-level user counts and in workplace AI tool adoption data.
Much of the capital is buying infrastructure rather than applications. Google reported more than $150 billion in capital expenditure in 2025, spending that lands in data centres and the server platforms those workloads run on.
At the device end the buildout is earlier. Only a small share of laptops ship with dedicated AI silicon, as the NPU share figures and the assistant features bundled with them show.
FAQs
Which region raises the most AI startup funding?
North America. Its startups raised $137.2 billion in Q2 2026 against $42.8 billion in Asia and $24 billion in Europe, and about 80% of the North American total went to AI-focused companies.
How much have AI startups raised globally in 2026?
Global venture funding reached $510 billion in H1 2026, later revised to $515 billion, plus $65 billion in July. More than 70% of Q2 capital went to AI-focused companies.
Which country leads private AI investment?
The United States, at $285.88 billion in 2025 according to Stanford HAI. That is 23.1 times China’s $12.41 billion and 48.5 times the United Kingdom’s $5.90 billion.
Do Reddit threads on AI funding use the same figures?
Not usually. Reddit posts mix Crunchbase venture totals with Stanford’s private investment series, which is why $285.9 billion and $137.2 billion both circulate as regional AI funding numbers.
Why do Reddit and news reports quote different H1 2026 totals?
Crunchbase revises as deals are reported late. The same H1 2026 figure read $510 billion at its July 1 data cut and $515 billion at the August 3 cut.
