Having an Android device and Chromebook is beneficial, especially if you use Google’s devices. One advantage is the “Fast Pair” feature available on ChromeOS and Android.

This allows you to easily connect your favorite headphones or earbuds to your Chromebook without navigating through several Bluetooth menus.

To use this feature, you’ll need an Android phone, as it connects the devices through your Google Account. Getting started is simple and straightforward.

You need to have a ChromeOS tab or a Chromebook. This feature was introduced in ChromeOS 111, so make sure your device is updated.

Fast Pair connects your Bluetooth device to your Google Account, allowing you to use it across different devices.

Once your headphones or earbuds are linked to your Google Account, they should automatically connect to your Chromebook as long as Bluetooth is enabled.

    Note:

Keep in mind that Fast Pair is only compatible with certain headphones and earbuds. You can check if your device works with Fast Pair by looking at the packaging or the online listing.

Products like the Pixel Buds series often have labels like “Made by/or Google” indicating they will likely work with this feature.

After meeting all the requirements, follow these steps to get started:

    • Select the Time icon.

    • Turn on Bluetooth by selecting the icon.

    • For earbuds, open their case. For headphones, bring them near your Chromebook.

    • Select “Connect” when the pop-up appears

That’s how you Fast Pair headphones. If it doesn’t work, you can try forcing a Fast Pair connection.

In this example, we used a Pixel 7 Pro with Android 13, where finding and pairing Bluetooth devices is simple.

The steps may vary by phone model and Android version, but you should generally look for the Bluetooth Devices section to start pairing.

    • First, ensure Bluetooth is turned on for your Android device.

    • Next, put your headphones into pairing by pressing the case button or side buttons on the headphones.

    • A pop-up appears with an image of your earbuds. Select the “Connect” option to link them to your Google Account.

    • To pair manually, go to Settings, tap on Connected Devices, and then choose Pair Device.

    • Under Available Devices, find your headphones or earbuds.

    • Tap the name and allow access to call history and contacts.

    • Hit “Pair”, and when the pop-up appears, click “Save” to store the device in Google Accounts.

Once paired and saved using your Android device, go to your Chromebook and Bluetooth is on, you should see a prompt to connect your headphones when they’re nearby.

Now your headphones or earbuds are linked to your Google Account.

The next time you set up a new Android phone or Chromebook with the same account, simply open the case or bring the headphones close, and you’ll be ready to start enjoying music or movies right away.
